About
Joseph Downes-Berry
Sound Designer, Composer, and Web Developer specializing in interactive media.
Background
I'm a multi-disciplinary designer based in Los Angeles with a proven record of creating a diverse array of projects at the intersection of sound, design and code. Curiosity keeps me digging into new tools, techniques, and technologies.
Most recently, I spent nearly four years at Nyft Studios / Nifty Island where I crafted over 40 original tracks for game soundtracks, cinematic sequences, and promotional content. I designed and integrated adaptive audio systems that respond to player interactions, working closely with game designers and developers to ensure every audio element met both creative and technical requirements. Before that, I was developing my skills as a programmer practicing web design and creative-coding while simultaneously honing my video editing and animation skills.
All of that led me to where I am now—freelancing as an audio specialist and designer, helping clients realize high-quality products. My diverse background includes teaching, managing community programs, and coordinating operations—all of which have sharpened my project management and collaborative skills.
Approach
I excel at integrating dynamic audio systems that enhance gameplay experiences. From concept development to final integration, I oversee the complete audio production lifecycle, ensuring consistent quality and timely delivery.
Collaboration is central to my process. I work closely with teams to understand their vision and ensure audio elements serve the project's creative and technical goals.
